Not pictured: guest bedroom (everything from the closet is currently on the bed), balcony (too foggy so there was no view), and two bathrooms (kind of weird to photograph a bathroom).

Still needs a little bit of work done, but it is our home. And yes, Jeremy followed me around the entire house while I took photos.

Bench

Ben and I decided to undertake our first woodworking project. I found some plans online for a cool nightstand, but the wood cuts on the plans are not standard wood sizes, so we got looked at like idiots at the lumber yard. After this little hiccup, we decided an easier project might be better for our first time. I found another plan for a bench, which is perfect because we needed something for our entry hall. We made it in an afternoon, and I painted it the next day. It might not be perfect, but it works for what we need, and we built it.

Eventually a coat rack will hang above the bench so we don't have to constantly be putting up our four coats.

Santa Came to Jackson

The day after Thanksgiving, Jackson Hole Town Square is lit. Ben and I went and got to see Santa arrive to town on a four-wheeler, led by sled dogs.

Our First House Guest

Ben and I had our first house guest: my dad. The first lesson that we learned is a weekend trip made during winter can turn into a longer trip. My dad arrived on Friday night, with no snow on the ground. As of Saturday morning, it was snowing, and not stopping, till about Wednesday afternoon. But my dad had fun exploring Grand Teton National Park and enjoying the scenery of snow. Too bad the mountains hid the entire time he was in Jackson. Here are some photos of the trip, all taken by my dad.

Salt Lake City

For Ben's birthday, I got us a hotel room in Salt Lake City, and we took advantage of my weekends off. On the way to Salt Lake, we stopped at Fossil Butte.

The gorgeous view from the top of Fossil Butte. Too bad we only saw fossils in the visitor center.

The Mormon Temple in downtown Salt Lake City.

I love the fall colors. Having seasons is amazing.

On a nice walk through the hills that are connected to the Arboretum. Can you spot Ben?

A man-made waterfall in the Arboretum. Look at those colors on the trees.

I love bright red leaves.

The Great Salt Lake. It is a little hazy so you can't quite see across the whole lake.

Jeremy in the Great Salt Lake. And drinking some of it.

Me and Jeremy at an overlook at the marina on the Great Salt Lake.

We also went to the Salt Flats, one of the flattest areas of the world, and where the speed tests are conducted. But pictures of flat land don't turn out so great, and I looked awkward in all of them.

Halloween and Election

The past two weeks have been fairly busy in the newsroom. The week before the election, we came out with a General Election Special Section. It has all the important information about the contested races. I had to come up with a general illustration that showed the election and Wyoming.

Another fun project was the cover and doubletruck for the Wild and Scenic Film Festival. I only had provided photos to work with, but luckily, they were great quality. There were seven films in the festival, and I wanted to show all of them.

For Halloween we had a Stepping Out section full of spooky stories and event previews. The photographers did a great job of getting a cover shot from the high school Dracula play that was being put on. I made a 'spooky' logo to go on each page containing spooky stories, and I also used it for the cover.

All summer there is a photography class in the Jackson area that the News&Guide covers. At the end of the class, our photographers picked some of the best and most creative photos and I designed a doubletruck to show off the work of the seven photographers.

Let It Snow

We welcomed winter on October 25th with five inches of snow. Everyone at work reassured me that they don't usually get this much snow this early. But after getting my down jacket, I really don't mind the cold or snow. Besides, it is gorgeous with all the snow, so on Friday we went on a drive through the Grand Tetons.

As soon as you enter the Grand Tetons, there is a small chapel off the main road, Chapel of Transfiguration. Once inside, there is a gorgeous picture window with the perfect view of the Grand Tetons over the altar. Unfortunately, due to bad lighting, those pictures don't look so great.

On the only one-way road in the park, the scenic drive along Jenny Lake was the perfect place for me to open the sun-roof, stand up, and snap a picture of the snowy road surrounded by frosted pines.

Jenny Lake, with the Grand Tetons covered in snow. The lake is so much calmer in the cold.

Bison and Elk and Geysers, Oh My!

In between moving-in and working, we found time to take a trip up to Yellowstone National Park. It was a wee bit cold at 51 degrees, so we only walked around the Old Faithful area of the park. But the short trip did not disappoint.

As any national-park-goer knows, a bunch of cars stopped on the side of the road means that there is an animal around. Sure enough, within perfect view of a bridge were six Elk feeding in the meadow.

A quick trip out of the car gave us a gorgeous view of Lewis Falls.

We walked up with perfect timing to see Old Faithful go off. It was not like last time when I stated that it was "lame" after it seemed to stop halfway through the show.

One of the springs around Old Faithful. The colors in the pools are absolutely amazing.

After watching a herd of bison play in the creeks in the middle of a trail, and watching them then cross the trail incredibly close to some people, we caught an up-close look at the herd.

We stopped at Lewis Lake on the way back south through Yellowstone.

The Kepler Cascades are only visible when going south through the park. We totally missed these falls that were right beside the road when we were heading to Old Faithful. But when we did spot them, we climbed down some rocks to get a better view at the shoreline.

Once we were back in Grand Teton National Park, we spotted an entire field of bison. There must have been more than a hundred. We weren't sure if they were wild bison or domesticated. Just seemed unreal to see the numbers of them that we did at one time.
